"Dig another well..."

Dig a new well, climb a mountain.

I've never had to depend on a well for my drinking water. As a matter of fact, I don't know jack-diddly about wells other than ... dig deep, get water. But I have to imagine, that if the water started to dry up, if you had to lower that bucket down deeper and deeper every time you went for water, eventually ... if you were smart, ... you'd start looking for another place to dig your next well. Yes? The once full well that now holds only stale water isn't a good place to drink from.

Why am I talking about wells? I really have no idea. Oh wait. Yes. A metaphor.

Passion is the real topic here.

Passion and Change.

That stale water is so dangerous. Dangerous because you can only taste the difference right at the beginning... and then you get used to it. That murky, chalky taste of passionless living. Before long, you forget what fresh water ever tasted like ... what it was like to wake up excited about the day, and go to sleep looking forward to tomorrow.

Ugh. But digging that new well. "Its so much work! Its so much easier to walk the familiar path to the familiar well with the water I'm used to!"

No more I say. Not for me. I'm ready for a new well.

The first step was to create The Bucket List. (A fabulous excercise in and of itself I must say!) On my list, climb Mt Shasta. Next weekend, I'm gonna give it a go. Gonna' find me that new well or die trying. Gonna' see if that snowy old mountain might inspire me a bit. Maybe breathe some life in to these not-quite-middle-aged bones of mine.

And now, looking back on this email, I see that once again ... its not in the least bit insurance related. But whaddayagonnado, ya know?
