"You sir, are a man of action..."
This email may be my most random ever.
Can the stories of climbing Mt. Shasta, diving for abalone in Mendocino, dying celebrities, sappy country music, and why-you-need-to-call-me-right-now-about-life-insurance be brought together for a cohesive two minute read? ... Lets see how this goes.
I climbed Shasta mid-June and returned to an abalone dive weekend with my brother. After telling my friend about my recent adventures, he sent me a note that read "You sir, are a man of action...". This made me smile.
The next week, CNN began reporting on the deaths of one celebrity after the other. For the umpteenth time, I was struck by the uncertainty of life. This delicate balance between life and death often makes me think of the wonderfully sappy country song by Tim McGraw, "Live Like You Were Dying". Ahhh... the lyrics are sooo good, but for those too lazy to go read them, the short version is that a terminally ill man finally learns how to live a rich and rewarding life in his final days, and wishes everybody could experience that same level of passionate living.
Carpe Diem!
I mean, we are all dying, aren't we? Some of us will live until a ripe old age. Some of us will unexpectedly have our lives cut short. But either way, we are all headed in the same direction.
Next thought. (Remember, this is uber-random email, you've got to stay sharp!) ... ... Sudden bad news is never expected. Whether its the King of Pop's death, or the doctor telling you that the test results are in and he needs to see you ... our lives can turn on a dime.
Wrapping up, bringing it all home now ... stick with me!
One of the worst phone calls I can receive is from a person who's just recently discovered they are sick and now they want to buy the life insurance. I hate to break it to them that they've missed the boat.
Life is uncertain. We are all dying. We can't predict bad news.
If you need life insurance and you've been on the fence for months or years saying that you'll get around to it 'sometime', ... stop lolligaggin!
