Bruce was riding his bike when a truck hit him at nearly 60mph. Thankfully, he survived the accident and we are hoping for a quick recovery.
After two weeks of treatment, the doctors estimated that the medical bills alone would be over $400,000.
Without proper insurance in place, this accident would've crippled him financially for life.
After spending some time with Bruce and his family in the ER on the day of the accident, I couldn't get it out of my mind how easily that could've been me on the gurny. Worse yet, what if Bruce had died in the accident that day? What if I died suddenly and unexpexpectedly? What sort of condition would my family be left in?
Bruce's accident prompted me to take care of something I should have done a long time ago: I finally took care of getting a will in place for my wife and I. Ever since my son was born (six years ago now!) I knew I needed to do the will. And yet, I procrastinated. Bruce's accident reminded me how important this stuff is. Health Insurance, Life Insurance, wills ... nobody likes talking about it. Nobody likes paying for it. But, for those of us with families, they are a necessity.
Is there anything you've had on your "Someday Isle" list? You know:
* "Some day I'll ... change those fire alarm batteries."
* "Some day I'll ... make peace with my neighbors."
* "Some day I'll ... buy life insurance."
* "Some day I'll ... give my family some good quality time."
I've just completed an inventory of my own "Someday Isle" list, checked off several things, ... and it feels great! In light of my friend's recent close call, I'd encourage you to do the same. Bruce's accident is a great reminder of just how fragile our lives are.
PS.
I'd love to hear from you if my short email encouraged you to take care of anything on your "Someday Isle" list. Please shoot me an email or give me a call and share!
